What is a Cycle to Work scheme?

Cycle to Work schemes were introduced to encourage healthier commuting and lower-emission travel. They allow employees to obtain a bike and eligible safety equipment through their employer using a salary sacrifice arrangement.

In simple terms, your employer pays for the bike and equipment, then the cost is repaid through your salary over time. Because this is normally done before tax and National Insurance, many riders can make a meaningful saving compared with buying outright.

This makes Cycle to Work one of the most affordable ways to buy a new commuter bike, electric bike or everyday riding accessories.

A practical way to buy the bike you actually want

Many riders use Cycle to Work to step up to a better bike than they might otherwise buy outright. That can mean a more comfortable commuter, a more capable hybrid, or an electric bike that makes everyday journeys easier and more enjoyable.

While some schemes have lower limits, at eBike-Centre we can provide quotes for any value, which is especially useful if you are looking at higher-value bikes or premium electric bike models.

Gogeta Cycle to Work

At eBike-Centre, Gogeta is now one of our preferred Cycle to Work providers. It is designed to be simple for employees, employers and retailers, with a self-serve setup that works particularly well for small and medium-sized businesses.

Gogeta offers 0% retailer commission, which helps us offer the best possible deals to customers without adding unnecessary surcharges. It can also give customers better access to sale bikes where suitable, rather than automatically excluding discounted models.

Another major benefit is the simple end-of-hire ownership transfer fee, which is just £1. Vouchers can often be issued quickly, making it a very practical option if your employer wants a straightforward Cycle to Work solution.

Green Commute Initiative

We also continue to accept Green Commute Initiative vouchers in store, and if you would prefer to buy remotely, just contact us and we can help.

Green Commute Initiative is especially useful because it was designed to make it easier for people to buy electric bikes through Cycle to Work. Unlike some older schemes, it is not tied to the traditional £1,000 cap, which makes it a strong option for higher-value commuter and e-bike purchases.

Although it is especially popular for electric bikes, it can also be used for many conventional bikes and eligible safety equipment such as helmets, locks and lights.

Companies can either sign up fully or use one-off invoices for individual purchases, which can be very helpful if your employer is not already set up with a large Cycle to Work provider.

Other Cycle to Work providers

In addition to Gogeta and Green Commute Initiative, we also accept vouchers from major Cycle to Work providers including Cycle Scheme, Cycle2Work, Halfords, Vivup and Cycle Solutions.

The process varies slightly between providers, but in most cases it is simple. You choose your bike, tell your employer the value, receive a voucher, and then use that voucher to complete the purchase with us.
